Congratulations to the Stephanie Binder Young Professional Award Winner

Stephanie Binder Young Professional Award The memory of NHTSA’s Stephanie Binder was honored at the annual meeting of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society in Chicago. The Surface Transportation Technical Group awarded the first annual “Stephanie Binder Young Professionals Award” in her memory  to Birsen Donmez of the University of Toronto. Stephanie, a human factors engineer in Vehicle Safety Research who played an instrumental role in NHTSA’s driver distraction research program, motorcycle conspicuity studies, and connected vehicles research among many other programs, died unexpectedly at age 35 in 2011. The award is intended to recognize a human factors professional, aged 35 or younger, who demonstrates outstanding contribution to transportation human factors. NHTSA’s Chris Monk was on hand with committee members Linda Boyle of the University of Washington and Bryan Reimer of MIT to help present the inaugural award to Birsen Donmez of the University of Toronto.
