Transportation Research Board (TRB)
The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is a unit of the National Research Council, a private, nonprofit institution that is the principal operating agency of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. The Board's mission is to promote innovation and progress in transportation by stimulating and conducting research, facilitating the dissemination of information, and encouraging the implementation of research results.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) NHTSA, under the U.S. Department of Transportation, was established to carry out safety programs under National Acts and Codes of the U.S. NHTSA also carries out consumer programs.

U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)
The DOT is at work for America building a safe and efficient transportation system for the 21st century - one that is international in reach, intermodal in form, intelligent in character, and inclusive in service.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
FHWA is a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation and is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with field offices across the United States. The FHWA performs its mission through three main programs: The Federal-Aid Highway Program, the Motor Carrier Safety Program, and the Federal Lands Highway Program.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
The NTSB is an independent Federal agency that investigates every civil aviation accident in the United States and significant accidents in the other modes of transportation, conducts special investigations and safety studies, and issues safety recommendations to prevent future accidents.

Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America)
The mission of ITS America is to foster public/private partnerships to increase the safety and efficiency of surface transportation the application of advanced technologies. ITS America was mandated by the U.S. Congress in 1991 to coordinate the development and deployment of intelligent transportation systems in the United States.

National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS) at the University of Iowa
The NADS is a state-of-the-art facility developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the University of Iowa to conduct the world's most advanced driver-in-the-loop motor vehicle simulation research dedicated to highway safety and motor vehicle design.

Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI)
The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), formerly the Center for Transportation Research (CTR), is an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, university research center of Virginia Tech. The center pursues its mission by encouraging research, attracting a multidisciplinary core of researchers, and educating students in the latest transportation technologies through hands-on research and experience. The VT CTR is both a FHWA/FTA ITS Research Center of Excellence and a Mid-Atlantic University Transportation Center.

University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI)
UMTRI provides a setting where its research scientists and other University faculty collaborate to accomplish multidisciplinary transportation research, generating new basic knowledge and providing research training for students. Broad areas of research include crash-data collection and -safety analysis, bioengineering, human factors, mechanical engineering, psychology, economics, public policy, and marine systems. In addition, numerous multidisciplinary research programs are currently being conducted with other units of the University of Michigan involving specialized areas of engineering, business, medicine, and public health. UMTRI's collaborations extend beyond the University to include working with state and federal agencies, urban and regional, labor and industrial-relations groups, and corporate sponsors.

Western Transportation Institute at Montana State University
On rural roads, the fatality rate is more than twice that of urban areas. The Western Transportation Institute (WTI) is dedicated to understanding the driver role in fatal rural traffic crashes and developing driver support systems to improve traffic safety. WTI currently operates a suite of three driving simulators, with the most advanced driving simulation capability of any research university in North America. The WTI simulators are used to do experimental research on driver behavior and to help engineers “visualize” new technology systems or traffic engineering designs at early stages of development. These state-of-the-art facilities allow our team of researchers to conduct complex and realistic traffic research in a controlled environment before extending the research to naturalistic setting of test track and open road studies.

Volpe National Transportation Systems Center
The Volpe National Transportation Systems Center is an organization within the U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, and responsiveness of other Federal organizations with critical transportation-related functions and missions.

Center for Transportation Research (CTR) of The University of Texas at Austin
The Center for Transportation Research (CTR) is a research unit of The University of Texas at Austin. Their mission is to undertake relevant transportation research, to provide educational opportunities for UT students, and to serve the traveling public by conducting research that responds to society's changing transportation needs.

The Pennsylvania Transportation Institute
The research activities, educational efforts, and service projects of the Pennsylvania Transportation Institute (PTI) are directed toward solving problems in four major transportation areas: pavements, materials and construction; transportation operations; transportation structures; and vehicle systems and safety. The institute also addresses transportation issues through several affiliated programs and centers, including the Bus Testing and Research Center, the Center for Intelligent Transportation Systems, the Crash Safety Research Center, the Pennsylvania Local Roads Program--LTAP, the Mid-Atlantic Universities Transportation Center, and the Northeast Center of Excellence for Pavement Technology.

Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE)
The ITRE conducts research, education, and technical assistance projects on a wide variety of surface transportation issues. These projects include extensive work for the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Division of Highways and Public Transportation Division, as well as other state and municipal agencies in North Carolina and surrounding states.

Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC)
The center conducts short-term and long-term research and provides technology assistance, engineering training and continuing education, technology transfer, and problem-solving services to DOTD and others in the transportation community. The center is largely supported funding authorized by the Federal Highway Administration.

Transport Research Laboratory
TRL is an independent, internationally centre of excellence in surface transport issues. TRL has worked closely with customers in public, private and independent sectors of the UK and world-wide. The organisation provides research based technical help which enables customers to obtain improved value for money, generate competitive advantage and a better understanding of transport problems.

Centre for Transportation Research (CTR) at The National University of Singapore
The Centre for Transportation Research has been developed with the aim of making productive contributions to the continued progress of the transportation industry in Singapore by conducting applied research and development work in contemporary and future transportation issues. The pool of expertise in the Centre comprises specialist research staff drawn from the Department of Civil Engineering and the Industrial and Systems Engineering, both of the Faculty of Engineering, as well as the Department of Decision Sciences of the Faculty of Business Administration.

User Information Systems - Transportation Research Board Standing Committee A3B08
The committee's activities focus on the information exchange between the transportation mode and the user. Particular attention will be placed on defining the informational requirements, user capabilities, and situation and environmental conditions that affect the adequate and accurate transmission of user information. The committee's purview will include all modes of transportation and will also address the interface between modes.
